Ayala R. Luria

HAyala Luria, Ph.D., is a Scientist in the Department of Urology and Institute for Regenerative Cures at UC Davis Medical Center, and a Consultant in a startup Company ‘Adipocyte Therapeutics’ in Palo Alto.
She obtained her Ph.D degree in Biochemistry from Bar Ilan University in Israel, and did her postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Biology at UC Davis. Her major work there included studies on signal transduction and molecular mechanism of the nuclear receptors during cell-cell interaction and development. Followed by that, she had joined the Laboratory of Prof. Hammock, a prominent leader in the area of lipid autacoids, lipid mediators produced by cytochrome P450 epoxygenases and their involvement in cancer and metastasis, metabolic disease and inflammation. Dr. Luria was awarded one out of five, a New Investigator Award from UC office of the President for her work on lipid mediators and biomarkers platform analysis for various diseases.
Dr. Luria continues her research in stem cell biology, developing a method to differentiate stem cells into bladder cells (urothelium) and making huge progress in tissue engineering replacing cancerous-urothelial layer with new ‘fresh’ clean of any mutated cells in a model of bladder cancer.
