Event Details
Event Details:

Hypertension remains a leading cause of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity worldwide. Despite the availability of potent drug therapies, it is estimated that millions of patients do not respond adequately to treatment. This problem is partly due to pervasive derangements in blood pressure control mechanisms that remain poorly understood. Another part of the problem may also be due to a deficient understanding of the nature of hypertension. This talk will review the history of our understanding of the significance of an elevated blood pressure, highlight the shortcomings of current definitions of hypertension, discuss epidemiological data that provide some insights into the problem, and identify challenges and opportunities for new research ventures to move the field forward.
