Event Details:

The U.S. has a long history of innovation in the sciences, bolstered by universities and individual researchers, and supported by both Federal grants and private initiatives. But commercialization of the riches of this research has often not been a priority. The SBIR/STTR program is smaller than it should be, in a time when new tools have reduced the lag from discovery to market. Larta's "Commercialization Accelerator Program" (CAP), developed over 15 years, represents a major attempt to drive commercialization through a "network centric" approach that has been adopted by many federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation (NSF), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The Larta story and approach underscores the opportunities and challenges for companies emerging from the lab, and in this session, Carlos Gutierrez of Larta explores the fundamental issues tackled, some successfully, some not, in the march toward the marketplace.
